R. Vaughn William’s Concerto Grosso was originally written for string orchestra. It was commissioned by the Rural Music Schools for the twenty-first anniversary of the movement celebrated in the Albert Hall on November 18th 1950. The Concertino parts were written for more advanced players.

This arrangement has been made so that it can be played by both a recorder orchestra (or large recorder group) or by 10 players. When playing one to a part, where parts divide, the part 1 of each instrument normally takes the upper line, and the part 2, the lower line, except where marked. Anne Martin.
